Holds Time in His Hands

A change of the calendar year is marked by the stroke of midnight and often accompanied by comments of how quickly time passes. On New Years, I feel the tugging undercurrent of powerlessness as I feel time slipping beneath my feet. I ask myself, "Where did the time go?"

I spent the last days of 2016 trying to hold trust in God by turning to the words of Psalm 31. Like the Psalmist, when I look back over my life I see steadfast guidance and protection. Like the Psalmist, I hand over to God's spirit my inner self, my afflictions, and those who have hurt me. Placing our whole self in God's hands is a path toward experiencing freedom in Christ, the redemption of the soul.

But today, I notice also that God's hands hold more than our life. God holds time as well. God who holds time will also redeem the time that we may feel is lost, forsaken or worthless.

Every moment of time is held by grace. Whether we spent the moment in full awareness of that grace, or we squandered it away. We can ask for God to redeem "time" along with redeeming our life.

Do you worry that you have made too many mistakes? Lost too much time? Do you think that since life is not what you expected to be at this point in your life, that perhaps time has passed you by?

God holds time in his hands. Trust in that. God breathed into you the breath of the divine and is drawing you into a promise of a redeemed life..It takes time. And time belongs to the One who loves you.

Do not look at the past and hold onto it, for the best days are ahead. Live your life in a manner of trusting that in every moment, God is changing you from glory unto glory, making your life a testimony of redemption.

Press on in faith, reach for the high calling of a life well lived.

God promises to bring all of life into completion.

"I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ." Phil. 1:6

"This one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus." Phil 3:13b-14
